Coastal Strategy

WCVI Coastal Strategy

In 2001, Federal, Provincial, Nuu-chah-nulth and local governments gave West Coast Aquatic a mandate to produce an integrated strategy to improve the health and wealth of the west coast.  To accomplish this mandate, WCA produced and finalized a Coastal Strategy that includes:

  • A shared set of values to guide actions and decisions
  • A vision, goals, and objectives
  • Priority action areas.

The Strategy is the second Integrated ocean management plan in Canada and received letters of endorsement from four levels of government and all of the major sectors represented at the Board.

Implementation of the Coastal Strategy

West Coast Aquatic believes in the power of what can be achieved when diverse people who are passionate about the west coast of BC - people who make a living from its waters, rely on its health for food, and protect its beauty - are connected with the living landscape that they are a part of.
